Scholarships in the Communication Department:

Scholarships in the Communication Department are awarded to two graduating seniors each year with a 3.0 GPA. The scholarship is given in recognition of the candidates’ outstanding contributions to the department.

The recipients are expected to be involved in the Aronstam Library, co-curricular programs, and various student activities. They should also participate in classes and extracurricular activities. The amount of the award varies and is dependent on the applicant’s financial need.

Awarded Benefits of Scholarship:

The Scholarship Committee of the Department of Communication awards stipends ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 to students. It is awarded based on academic achievement and financial need, and it is renewable as long as the students continue to improve academically and demonstrate financial need. The award is a testament to the dedication of the department to its students.

The Scholarship Committee will also support additional Scholarships in the department for outstanding undergraduates, and the recipients will be given a chance to continue their education in the field.

However, The Scholarship Committee of the Department of Communication awards a stipend of varying amounts to students with a declared major in communication. The recipient must be a full-time student, have an overall GPA of at least 2.5, and be an undergraduate. Hence, The Committee is particularly interested in students from underrepresented groups. The winner must be a rising senior. If selected, the winner will receive a $750 stipend.

The Scholarship of the Communication Department supports students with outstanding work in the field of radio/television production. The department awards one stipend every semester to deserving students. The funds are provided by Westin Hotels and contribute to the scholarship of the Communication Department. This fund is awarded to students interested in international and regional communication. In addition, it also supports internship opportunities. The money is awarded to full-time students with a demonstrated interest in the history of broadcasting and radio/television production.

Eligibility Criteria:

The Communication Department has many scholarship programs and awards varying amounts to students. The Len Wurthman Scholarship honors an outstanding undergraduate or graduate student in the Department. The recipient must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate financial need.

The winner must also demonstrate a commitment to the Department by completing their degree within five years. Applicants must show a desire to further their education and to help others. However, the scholarships will not cover the costs of internships.
